« Back to Decking the Halls: The Arches
Both ivy and holly were used in the medieval celebration of Christmastide, but holly does not tolerate the warm, dry air in the Main Hall. The thick-leaved ivy gathered on the grounds and put into florist’s water picks holds up very well; a single leaf can last several weeks. Clusters of lady apples, hazelnuts, and rosehips are added to the greens once the arches have been put in place.
