Iris pallida uncropped

Iris pallida, or pale iris, blooming in Trie Cloister garden. This species is botanically distinct from the irises grown in Bonnefont garden, but its rhizome was used in the same way. While we are sure that this beautiful iris, long grown at The Cloisters, is the correct species, the flower is very large and it may well be an improved form unknown to the Middle Ages.
