Roundel with Wild Man Supporting an Heraldic Shield

Roundel with Wild Man Supporting an Heraldic Shield, 1510-1530
South Netherlandish
Colorless glass, vitreous paint and silver stain; D. 8 1/4 in. (21 cm); The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, The Cloisters Collection, 1932 (32.24.28)

As described in heraldic language, the unidentified shield impales Argent a Garb Or with Per fess barry of six Vair and Gules in chief & Sable a Star of six points Or in base. Interestingly, the gold garb is on a silver field, represented here as white, which violates the usual heraldic prohibition of putting metal on metal or color on color.
