Deirdre, I had collected moss last year to put around my amaryllis bulbs. I had a large piece left over and stuck it under a bench on a rock and it has survived! But this has been one wet year!

Hello, Georgia---the lobed, fan-shaped leaves of the gingko tree do resemble those of the maidenhair fern. I think I have heard the ginko referred to as maidenhair tree in the past, but never stopped to think why.

Hi, Don---

Yes, the much hardier northern maidenhair, Adiantum pedatum, is also lovely. Have you transplanted it sucessfully? Have you had any luck collecting mosses from your woods?

The leaves of the maidenhair fern are similar to those of Ginkgo biloba. One of this tree's two common names is Maidenhair Tree! The other common name is Ginkgo.

Beautiful! One of my favorites ferns and I was just thinking I need to go into the woods and dig some up for my woodland walk. Thanks for the reminder!
