Hassan Hakmoun and his ensemble (Moroccan-American) perform Gnaua music, followed by the Najmuddin Saifuddin Qawwali ensemble (Pakistan). The two ensembles come together in the finale for an inspired collaborative finish.

Metropolitan Museum Artists in Concert
The Museum’s acclaimed ensemble performs a program inspired by the new galleries. Included are works by Richard Strauss, Sulkhan Tsintsadze, Vache Sharafyan, Dmitri Shostakovich, and ensemble member Colin Jacobsen.

Conference for Educators
This event engages approximately one hundred K–12 educators in object-based discussions with curators and interactive gallery activities highlighting selections from the forthcoming teacher resource (a collaborative effort reflecting input from the Museum’s Education and curatorial staff, as well as several classroom teachers). Educators will ultimately draft a lesson or activity with the specific needs of their students in mind.

Jordi Savall, who has been called the “early music superstar” by the New York Times, will perform music from Mediterranean cultures on the rebab, vielle, and lira, with Dimitri Psonis playing santur, morisca, and percussion.

Teacher Workshop: The Art of Writing
This interdisciplinary workshop, supporting Visual and Language Arts instruction, explores the synthesis of visual and text-based literacy. Highlighted selections range from Persian manuscripts and Chinese calligraphy to depictions of Ancient Egyptian scribes.

The New York ensemble of young artists will perform a family concert inspired by the new galleries.
