« Back to Snowdrop and Snowflake
The spring snowflake, Leucojum vernum, is native to central Europe—from Romania and central Russia to the Pyrenees and Belgium—and is naturalized in southern England, Denmark, and Holland. Snowflakes grow in woods and on shady hillsides and, like snowdrops, can form large colonies. Unlike the snowdrop, which blossoms in the snow, the spring snowflake flowers from March until May, once the snow has melted.
Snowflakes are easy to establish in moist places in shade or semi-shade (Martyn Rix & Roger Phillips, The Bulb Book, 1981).
