Lily of the Valley in Fruit

Lily of the valley fruiting in Bonnefont Garden in late summer. The berries are a golden color and will ripen to scarlet in September. The seed contained in the fruit is not the principal means by which the plant reproduces; it spreads by underground runner and forms large colonies. Although a long-established and much-loved garden plant in the United States, lily of the valley has naturalized and is sufficiently aggressive to be considered an invasive plant by the U.S.D.A.
