Rosa gallica officinalis

The rose has been heralded for a wide range of virtues. Currently at The Cloisters, roses grow in both the “love and marriage plants” bed and the small “culinary plants” bed. Roses also were used as a medicinal herb, professed as a cure for many things including ulcers, cramps, paralysis, and even wrath. Photograph by Corey Eilhardt
