<em>Datura</em> Fruit

Several members of the genus Datura bear markedly spiny fruits, and share the name “thorn apple.” The fruits vary in size and shape, and may be globose or ovoid. In other members of the genus, spines may be sparse, and in some species are altogether lacking. (The single word “thornapple” is a common name given to hawthorns (Crataegus species), which belong to the rose family.
